The Building of My Beacon Hill

(Picture from GreenleafDollhouse.com)

You have no idea just how delighted I was to receive for Christmas my very own Beacon Hill dollhouse. I have to admit I am one very lucky and loved girl. Now I received the dollhouse kit, which meant it still had to be assembled. Well how hard could that be!?! The next morning I broke open the box and my dad and I began building my dollhouse. I thought it should be done in a day or two and then hours of playtime.

I think that first day we got the very basic shell assembled and then came the staircase. Oh joy. And I mean that in a very sarcastic way. My father and I struggled through the instructions, which are very poorly written. We finally managed to complete the staircase and thanks to Mrs. Camp I already knew how it should look, otherwise we would have built it according to the directions, which would not have been right.

Progress on my house was very slow. Punching out the pieces, sanding them then gluing them into place, placing on the clamps and tape and watching the glue dry. Not quite what I had in mind when I asked for a dollhouse for Christmas.

I began to loose interest in miniatures during high school. My dollhouse was moved to the back of the basement when I went off to University. Sad but true. But every Christmas there came the desire to decorate my dollhouse for Christmas as I had done so often as a child with Mrs. Camp’s dollhouse. Then came the realization that I still had not completed my dollhouse yet.

Well it’s been well over 15 years since the Christmas Eve where I received my dollhouse from my parents and it’s still not finished! I’m laughing at that. I have decide that to begin work on my dollhouse once again but this time keep going, at least until the outside is finished. I’m hoping then by next Christmas I can decorate my dollhouse as I have always dreamed and finally be able to show Mrs. Camp my dollhouse. Wish me luck!
